We wanted to make music that made us feel something, that made us feel connected to the fact that we're alive. In a lot of ways, I think people think about music as being just entertainment – and it is that, and there are bands that are wholly that – but I also feel like there is something, for a lack of a better word, spiritual about music that's made with really pure intentions, that tries to tap into something deeper to get to a level of consciousness that goes beyond the everyday, mundane kind of stuff. That's all I really ever wanted to do in Isis – to get to that level.»
